Art directing a magazine is always a good opportunity to meet new creative talent to work with. However, whether due to budget or time, sometimes hiring an incredible illustrator is not an option. When that happens, I always delight in getting to flex my talents.
For smaller articles and more abstract concepts during my time at Smith, I received the chance to draw and paint. Working with the editors and incorporating feedback from other designers, we would narrow down a style (painterly, abstract, sketch-like) and I would take the time to execute the exact vision we were looking for.
